I’m that type of people who wears the same fragrance everyday as signature scent. I bought my first one at TBS. It was this overly sweet Strawberry Perfume Oil I wore for years in high school and has been discontinued. I switched to Britney Spears Fantasy for 12 years, then to Prada Candy since I outgrow the former one. The latter was a blind buy bought by my father. I kind of liked it and hated it because it’s rated as sweet but too mature for my liking. I dream about having this one signature sweet scent but having a really hard time to choose because I don’t understand notes descriptions, I need to sniff.
So recently I just discovered Elie Saab and happened to bought some vials: Girl of Now Shine, Le Parfum in White, and Le Parfum Essentiel. All described to have Mandarin Orange and Orange Blossom in their notes, but they are far from similar. I figure I can try to describe them using visuals and personas. So here’s my take :
The first one I tried is Girl of Now Shine. This is a flanker version of the original Elie Saab Girl of Now. It’s very citrusy at first, then it gets so sour and smells like pineapple syrup. It is round, tangy, and kinda brings the memory of synthetic doll hair… a new opened high quality vinyl doll hair. This scent is nothing like fruits or flowers. It smells very synthetic, in a good way. After several hours, I noticed the sweetness arises. I knew this sweet synthetic smell from somewhere; a lipstick I once tried, crayons, alcohol based markers, and oil paint thinner. This scent reminds me of a clean painting studio.
Next one is Le Perfume in White. At first sniff this leans to masculine side for me. The opening is very sharp. It is clean and soapy, like a boyfriend scent that lingering on the borrowed jacket. Then it gets flowery after an hour, but still a tad bit masculine. This version is more mature than the others; it is strong, formal, and classy. Very musky. This also the most long lasting one, given white musk is the only scent that lasts among all other notes. I picture this scent as a young woman, who just left the door to get to work. She leads, works in suit, but wears T-shirt underneath it.
The last one is the simplest among all, Le Parfum Essentiel. It is a safe choice for sweet flowery scent. Although this one doesn’t last very long, it is a very safe to reapply without being overpowering. This is the smell of a friend that blends in the crowd, has soft gestures, lots of smile, and wears nice dresses. She is cheerful, feminine, and soft.
In my opinion, each of these Elie Saab fragrances has different age group and personality. Girl of Now Shine is for the youngest audience, while Le Parfum in White the most mature. All are suitable for both daylight and nigh time. If I had to chose one as a signature scent (I’m 32 years old at the moment) definitely gonna opt for Elie Saab Le Parfum in White.
